Look U.P. is a community astronomy program inviting people across the Upper Peninsula to pause, pay attention, and explore the night sky together.
You don’t need special equipment or prior knowledge. Use a telescope, binoculars, a sky app like Stellarium, or just your eyes. The goal is simple: look up, notice what’s there, and share the experience.
How It Works
- Each month, Shiras Planetarium posts a Look U.P. Bingo Card
- The card highlights things you might notice in the night sky
- Explore on your own schedule, in your own way
- Complete a bingo and submit the short entry form
- Entries are on the honor system
Monthly Bingo & Prizes
Anyone who completes a bingo may enter a monthly drawing for:
- Free planetarium show tickets
- Look U.P. and Shiras Planetarium merchandise
- Other small prizes determined as the program grows
Bingo cards are flexible. They’re designed to guide your attention, not rush you.
If you complete a card outside the calendar month, you can still submit your entry.
Who Can Participate?
Everyone. Families, kids, beginners, experienced sky-watchers — all are welcome.
Share the Sky
If you’d like, share photos or observations using:
#LookUP
Sharing is encouraged, never required.
Why Look U.P.?
The planetarium is one way to experience the sky.
Being a sentinel – someone who pauses, watches, and stays curious – is another. We hope to help our community build their knowledge of astronomy even when they cannot attend a planetarium show!
