Seating and Tickets

We have 55 seats and room for 8 wheelchairs or 8 seats on the floor in bean bags.  Tickets are sold online at shirasplanetarium.org/tickets.  Doors open about 15 minutes prior to the start time of the show. Seats are not assigned. First come, first served. If you purchase tickets online and are not present at the scheduled start time of that show, your seats will be forfeited. No refunds. If a show is not sold out online, the remaining tickets will be available at the door.

What age is appropriate?

We offer shows for all types of audiences. At least once a month we offer a show for any age child. Our “Campfire Under the Stars” series is meant to be a way to explore if your child is ready for the planetarium, or help them prepare. Our general public shows are intended for audiences able to remain mostly quiet during the show. We suggest ages 8 and up as a guideline. This is to ensure we offer the best possible experience to all our guests. Thank you for helping us observe these guidelines!

Show Etiquette

Shows last 30-45 minutes. Once inside the dome we ask you attempt to remain seated for the duration of the show. When the lights are dark, it is very difficult to move around the dome. If the doors are opened, the bright light from the hallway floods into the room, and the star field disappears from the audience. It takes several minutes for most people to get their eyes adjusted to the dark. Remaining seated for the entire show ensures guest safety and allows us to provide the best show possible. Note: if you must leave for emergency reasons please speak up! Let the director know so house lighting can be brought up for safe exit. Occasions certainly arise that are unavoidable. Please help us better support all our guests!

Cell phones and other electronic devices should be kept silent and dark. Light pollution inside the dome is very distracting. Please do your best to help us ensure the best experience possible for all our guests.

School Shows ~ Afternoon programs are available each day beginning at 11:00 AM. Morning shows are sometimes available if needed. If your class requires a morning time please ask about it.

We are limited to star shows showcasing the current night sky. We do not have full dome projection.

Cost is $2 per student and $3 per adult. One free adult admission per 10 students.
